Excerpts from Me…Artist?

Introduction

This book relates my experience in the art of painting.

… the book contents are my own views and opinions about painting which may not be in sync with those of better qualified artists.

Nevertheless, I have recently benefitted from researching in the internet, and uncovered gaps left unfilled during part time lessons with professional artists many years ago. It is good to share what I know and what I have gained from the cyber learning platform

Interest in Art

When someone has an interest in art, what is the motive that arouses that interest? The person may wish to do art only as a hobby, or the person has an ambition one day to be recognised as a promising artist.

Painting Styles

Some artists paint in fewer details but nevertheless produce work that highlights interesting aspects of their artistic visions. Their style is known as impressionism. These artists have the mastery in applying values to convey a sense of perspective without incorporating detailed lines and shapes.

Painting Mediums

Artists use different colour mediums in their work. I should leave out the pencil, charcoal and ink to be mentioned in sketching. Amongst the colour mediums the more popularly used are oil, watercolour and acrylics.

Understanding Colours

In this part of the book, I share information mainly concerning watercolours rather than of oil, as I have only been disposed to watercolour experiments to make sense of some information which I read in internet articles.

Other Chapters

The book covers other aspects such as explanations of ‘Values in Paintings’, comparison between watercolour and oil as well as descriptions of ‘Equipment Tools & Materials’.
